MySchools.nyc(Open external link)

MySchools is an online directory of NYC public schools and programs, as well as an application system for families. During 3-K, Pre-K, Kindergarten, Gifted and Talented (G&T), middle school, or high school admissions, create a MySchools account(Open external link) to explore schools, apply, join waitlists, and get your offer.

New Filter for Families Seeking 3-K and Pre-K Seats for Current School Year

The Office of Student Enrollment has added a new filter to MySchools for families looking for a 3-K seat (children born in 2020) or pre-K seat (children born in 2019) for the remainder of the current school year. They are labeled as “Need a 3-K Seat Now?” and “Need a pre-K seat Now?” respectively in the MySchools directory. Below are some directions on how to use this. We want to share with as many people as possible, so feel free to share with other organizations and the families you support as you deem appropriate. 

 

Directions: 

• To assist families, click into the “Need a Pre-K Seat Now?” or “Need a 3-K Seat Now?” filter
• Select the “May have seats available” option from the dropdown menu
• Explore options with families - please call schools directly to confirm that they have a seat available; if they do, the family can work with the school to register
• If a seat is not available near the family’s home, we recommend exploring options in other areas of the city - along a family’s commute, by work, or near other family members
• Please note, the filter is by school, not seat type - call schools directly for more information about the type of seat (School Day, Extended Day and Year, or Head Start) that is available

 

Even if a family is going to register for a program now, they should still apply for next fall for any children born in 2020 or 2021! Even if a family does not know where they will be residing come September, it is still best that they submit an application by the March 1 deadline. Fall 2024 Admissions Timeline*

Below are the application open, close, and offer release dates for each of the admissions processes. These dates are for students who are applying during the 2023-2024 school year for admission in the 2024-2025 school year.

High School Admissions

• Tuesday, October 3, 2023: High School Application & Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) Registration Opens 
• Friday, October 27, 2023: SHSAT Registration Closes 
• Wednesday, November 8, 2023: SHSAT School Day Testing 
• Friday, December 1, 2023: High School Application Closes 
• Thursday, March 7, 2024: High School Offer Release 

Middle School Admissions

• Wednesday, October 11, 2023: Middle School Application Opens 
• Friday, November 10, 2023: Deadline to register to test for Mark Twain I.S. 239 (21K239) and District 21 Talent Tests 
• Friday, December 8, 2023: Middle School Application Closes 
• Wednesday, April 3, 2024: Middle School Offer Release 

Kindergarten (and Kindergarten Gifted & Talented) Admissions

• Tuesday, December 5, 2023: Kindergarten and Kindergarten G&T Application Opens 
• Friday, January 19, 2024: Kindergarten and Kindergarten G&T Application Closes
