Dr. Eric L. Blake
Superintendent
Dr. Eric L. Blake began his career in Education as a teacher of English and Social Studies in Jamaica, West Indies. He continued his teaching career in the United States, within the New York City Department of Education as a middle and high school teacher, teaching literacy, social studies and English language arts. Thereafter, Dr. Blake became an Assistant Principal, supervising multiple departments: English, English as a Second Language (ESL), Library and Media Studies, Foreign Language, and Social Studies.
Dr. Blake served as Resident Principal with New Leaders for New Schools at Excelsior Preparatory High school in Queens before becoming the Principal at Science, Technology and Research Early College school in Brooklyn. There, Dr. Blake served as principal for 15 years, achieving New York State Recognition Status and US News and World Report rank as one the Best High Schools in New York State and the United States.
All the while, Dr. Blake continued to bring his passion for teaching and education to university students by teaching Writing and Composition at Brooklyn College and Long Island University and Economics of Education at the University of Phoenix.
Dr. Blake holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Arts in English and Administration and a doctorate in Education. Dr. Blake is a member of the Cahn Fellows Program for Distinguished Principals at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Dr. Blake brings over 30 years of educational experience to NYCDOE’s District 28. He deeply pursues high standards in academic achievement and institutional performance. He strives to compassionately understand and share in the experiences of others to create a system of support and encouragement. He commits to stimulating our students' curiosity and creativity to unleash their full potential and foster an environment that serves all students and aspires to eliminate the achievement gap.
